THE HEALTH SENTINEL

 

 

Established in 2018, The Health Sentinel become the executive publication of Veterans Regional Hospital (now known as Region II Trauma and Medical Center), started as a Writing Club that can help stress out employees, through Mr. Christian Conrad M. Guinto, former Secretary to the Chief of Medical Professional Staff. It served later on as the working group behind the centenary coffee table book titled Beehivethrough the dedicated leadership of former CMPS now Medical Center Chief, Dr. Napoleon A. Obaña and recognized by DOH staff with its intrepid reporting, intelligent commentary on issues both within and outside the hospital, dynamic design and active staff during DOH activities.

Former Sentinel staff includes Merlyne Almuete, Brett Torcuan, Hazel Buctayon, Precious Justine Pagatpatan, Melody Dalutag, Noemi Lyn Barroga, Dr. Alfredo Lopez, Jr., Allen Ray Ringpis and Jan Bryle Castrosanto.

The Health Sentinel, the official publication of Region II Trauma and Medical Center, shall serve as the news write arm, vehicle of expression, development and information for the entire hospital, promoting freedom of expression, health education and services, employee competence and development, and the ideals of journalism.

In July 2020, The Health Sentinel was assigned as the Official name of all publications of R2TMC, managed by the Public and Media Relations Office – under the newly created Public Health Unit of the Universal Health Care Act.

It strives to become a premier institutional publication, working within the highest standards of health journalism and ethics. It will act as a training ground for policy makers, media relations, public servants, leaders, journalists, artists and photographers, providing them with the foremost environment and opportunities for growth.
